Although Conroe was once a small, sleepy agricultural town, this is not true today. Conroe is today the largest city and county seat of Montgomery County. With a city population of more than 40,000, Conroe is the power center of Montgomery County, home to over 300,000 people.
During the past twenty years, the Montgomery County economy has greatly diversified. Conroe has attracted a wealth of manufacturing, retail, health care, construction and tourism companies. Our town is a great place for your business, your family and you

Did you know that Montgomery is one of the oldest towns in Texas? The third oldest to be specific. In 1826, Montgomery began as a trading post and later chartered in 1857. It is also recognized as the birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag, designed by Texas statesman, Dr. Charles Stewart (who also designed the state seal).

Guests visit the 19th Century Historic Downtown District, shop the fine retails shops and enjoy the local restaurants and attractions. A small community town, population 498, Montgomery is expected to double over the next few years. This growth has been thoughtfully planned while still providing the small town, historic flavor. The center of town is 15 miles west of Conroe and 50 miles northwest of Houston, which provides easy access to big town attractions, while offering a relaxed country lifestyle.
A special event every December is Christmas in Historic Montgomery that features the Historic Home Tour and our Famous Cookie Walk. This is the time to load up on those home baked goodies for the season.
Many of Montgomery’s fine homes can be found along the waterfront of Lake Conroe, in neighborhoods like Walden, Grand Harbor, Harborside, Bentwater, April Sound and Waterford Estates.
